Jesu Sweet, the second of two mediaeval lyrics set by Jamie W. Hall, is a beautifully simple and unusually intimate carol to the infant Jesus which asks only for the ability to love and through love to finally dwell with Him. A simple modal melody, its rising figures expressing joy and wonder, is the focus of the musical setting, accompanied throughout by simple yet effective choral textures which are easily accessible to any SATB choral group. The marked solo may be sung by a full section or semi-chorus and the tenor line may be performed by baritones where limited male voices are available. Suitable for any Christmas service or concert, this gentle carol offers a moment for quiet reflection or prayer.
