It's been my ambition to write a set of evening canticles for a long time. I love the depth of meaning in both texts, and in this set I've done my best to use interesting harmonic progression and word-painting to vividly convey the emotions emanating from these profound bible passages.

The organ and choral parts are fairly straightforward, with just a couple of slightly trickier corners.

The set is named after the school to which I received a scholarship — and to which I owe so much for encouraging my early musical progression. It was while touring with the school choir that I first developed my lifelong passion for liturgical choral music, and I'm delighted to dedicate this set to the inspirational Peter Harris, choirmaster.
