This set of canticles is in some ways a nostalgic look back to my childhood, a lot of which was spent singing in my local parish church choir in Gosport. The musical influences (renaissance music and particularly the music of Bartok and Stravinsky) are admittedly not the bread and butter repertoire of such choirs but I hope they provide adventurous ensembles with something a bit different.
The canticles are dedicated to the memory of my great uncle the Rev. John Nourse, who was a choral scholar at St John's, Cambridge and was for a time precentor at Canterbury Cathedral.
